How We Value Your Data

Notice of financial incentive
What This Program Is
Reward My Data rewards members for sharing shopping data. Under California law and similar laws in other states, that makes it a financial incentive program, and we owe you a plain explanation of what we collect, what you get, and what we think the data is worth.
What We Collect
•
The receipt itself: store, date and time, items, prices, discounts, totals and payment type.
•
For fraud checks only, never sold: the receipt photo and the name, card digits and transaction number printed on it. We do not collect your location.
•
Health and pharmacy items are removed from every receipt as it is read; we keep only the price.
•
Email receipts you add: the same details as a paper receipt, plus the order number.
•
Card purchases you upload: date, merchant, amount and category only. Never card or account numbers.
•
App usage you share: app names, categories and minutes per day or week. Health, dating, religion and money apps are left out.
•
Coupons you add, and any comments you post.
•
Your profile: name, date of birth, address, phone and email. These are used to run your account and apply your state's rules, and are never sold.
What You Get
•
Data Rewards (DR points): 2 DR points for each verified paper or email receipt, 5 DR points for a card purchases file (up to 4 a month), 5 DR points for a weekly Screen Time screenshot, 10 DR points for each week of automatic app usage on Android. DR points are redeemed for gift cards.
•
The Monthly Prize Drop: the first entry each month is free, and up to 2 more cost 15 DR points each (or are free once a week) or for free with the same odds (see the official rules).
•
A copy of your data, exportable at any time, that you can sell to anyone else.
What We Think Your Data Is Worth
There is no exact price for one person's data. Our good faith estimate uses public market comparables:
Meta
per US user, one year
$217
Google
per American user, one year
$393
Big platforms together
per person, one year
$700+
US retail media ads
in 2026
$69B
Data brokers
global market, a year
$300B
A single receipt on its own is worth cents. Thousands of receipts, anonymized and combined, are what buyers pay for. That is why every one you add is rewarded.
Method. We take what large platforms and retail media networks earn per active user from purchase and behavior data (the figures above), divide by the typical number of receipts a member shares in a year, and set DR points so that the value we pass back is a fair share of what a single verified receipt adds to the aggregate dataset: on the order of cents to a few dollars per receipt, depending on how many members contribute in the same area and how much demand there is for it. We revise this estimate as we learn what buyers actually pay.
Sources: Meta average revenue per user, US & Canada, 2023 (last year published); Proton, "What is your data worth?", 2025, citing Alphabet filings; Proton, 2025, lower bound estimate; EMARKETER, US retail media ad spending forecast, H2 2025; Industry estimates range from $260B to $435B for 2025.
Joining and Leaving
Joining. You opt in when you agree on the profile form, after seeing this notice. Each receipt you then submit becomes part of our deidentified, aggregated datasets.
Leaving. You can stop at any time: stop submitting, or delete your account from the Me tab or by emailing hello@rewardmydata.com. Before deleting, redeem any DR points you have, because unredeemed DR points end with the account. When you delete, we erase your account, profile and photos, and keep your receipts only in deidentified form, with nothing that links them to you, plus scrambled card and name fingerprints used only to stop fraud.
Selling and opting out. We don't sell personal information. What buyers get is deidentified and aggregated, we publicly commit not to reidentify it, and every buyer must contractually commit the same. If your state gives you the right to opt out of sale or sharing, the Me tab has that switch; using it never lowers your rewards.
